Rune of the Day: Tir

Tir is a rune of courage, of necessary self-sacrifice, of doing what is best for all involved in a given situation, not just yourself. This is definitely a big picture rune.  Tir often represents honor and justice, even balance; all those things that affect society as a whole, that affect everyone in the situation, not just you.

When Tir appears it is often necessary to give up that which is holding you back, no matter how painful the sacrifice will be.  This is the true nature of Tir- doing what is best so that you can keep growing, so that things work out best for everyone.  Tir is never an easy rune to heed, but it is a necessary one.

Tarot Card of the Day: Fool (Reversed)

The Fool reversed signifies apathy, indecision and hesitation.  This card represents someone who just isn't very sure of themselves, someone who would rather do nothing than take a chance on doing the wrong thing.

When this card is drawn for you, it is a sure sign that you are dragging your feet, and that it is time to make a move.   This is not the card of a happy person doing well, this is the card of someone afraid, someone who is so worried about what may happen that they are letting life pass them by.

The problem with not making any choices is that things will not get better, and may even get worse, just from lack of attention.  Making any kind of decision, even a small one, just to start with, is better than sitting around watching life pass you by, and hoping that someone else will step up to your plate and change your life.

The Two Together

When paired, Tir and the reversed Fool signify someone unwilling to make large necessary changes to their life.  Perhaps its necessary to move on from a long term friendship or relationship that is no longer working for you, or even dragging you down.  It may be necessary to make major changes to your life, to give up what you have always known, such as a young person leaving home to study and live abroad.

Although these are difficult choices to make and follow through on, in the long run they are decisions that benefit you and everyone around you.  You become a better, stronger, maybe more educated person and as a result, are more likely to live up to your full potential.  The more of your potenital you realize in life, the happier you will be in the long run.
