Rune of the Day: Algiz Reversed

You may be feeling a bit under the weather today, just not up to really dealing with a Monday.  Be sure to take care of yourself, if you need to see a doctor-then go; if you just need a day in bed-take it.  You may just need an extra day to recharge yourself, so relax, meditate, sleep-whatever it takes to bring you back to 100%

Tarot Card of the Day: Knight of Swords

You are very quick to go for what you want today.  You are willing to jump into any situation, tackle any problem, if it will just give you what you're looking for, or maybe just a bit of excitement.  You are up for any challenge today, and of course, there will always be someone willing to challenge you.

The Two Together

The Knight of Swords is urging action, even action without thought, while Algiz reversed is saying take it easy, let's think about this.  Somewhere in the middle is where you want to be: unafraid to take a chance, but not willing to blunder in blindly to any situation.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Eihwaz
Although it won't seem like a good thing at first, obstacles that are in the way of your growth will be removed today.  Expect the end of some relationships, especially those that have been limping along in a basically one-sided manner.  It may be painful, but hanging tough, and rolling with the punches, will help you make real progress.

Tarot Card of the Day: 6 of Wands

Things are really coming together for you today.  Things you have been working for are finally becoming yours, and you even have a bit of good luck thrown into the mix today.  This is one of those days when things just go smoothly for you.

The Two Together

Eihwaz paired with the 6 of Wands is reminding you that all good things come with some kind of a cost.  Often, its a willing one-working hard, extra hours, in exchange for a raise of promotion; spending the extra on a good car instead of a cheap one for reliable transportation.  Sometimes our rewards are the silver lining in the clouds-the new and higher paying job after being laid off.   Just remember it all balances in the end, so be sure to share any good fortune that comes your way.

Rune of the Day: Jera
Know that those things you have been working towards will be yours in time.  Some things simply cannot be rushed, and currently, your goals are some of those things.  Your positive outcome is assured if you just have patience and continue on your path.

Tarot Card of the Day: 3 of Wands

You know exactly how to get things done.  When you set your sights on something it is as good as yours.  Slow down just a bit and enjoy what you've accomplished, just for a minute-before you set off on your next venture.

The Two Together

Jera paired with the 3 of Wands is reminding you that all things take time.  Although you have done, and are doing everything right, sometimes you just have to wait for things to happen.  You're on the right track, your reward is coming, just be patient.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Wunjo Reversed

Things may not be going well today, just try to ride it out.  Taking on extra work, or doing more than you are comfortable with, in the hope that things will turn around, just isn't going to work.  Sometimes we just have to accept the delays that life throws at us, and to know that we have done our best.  Sometimes things going wrong is the Universe's way of giving us some down time-take advantage of it.

Tarot Card of the Day: 10 of Pentacles Reversed

Be very careful making any financial decisions today.  This is not a day to take a chance on what might be a good opportunity.   Sometimes we jump too quickly at new opportunities just because we feel we are stuck and need to shake things up.  Today is not the day to do that, just consider things carefully, and look at the big picture before doing anything.

The Two Together

With Kenaz and the 10 of Pentacles both reversed the Universe if very clearly saying to take it easy today.  Don't jump into something new, or into much of anything right now.  Things just need some time to settle before new ventures are begun.  Give them that time, or begin something new at your own risk!

Pagan Blog Project F is For Fennel

Fennel is a masculine herb associated with the planet Mercury, the element of Fire, and the deities Prometheus and Dionysus.

It is similar in smell and taste to anise and is frequently used in salads, sauces, soups, and fish broths.  It is also a main seasoning used in the making of Italian sausage, and one of the principle ingredients of absinthe.

Magickally fennel is used for protection, purification, and healing.

Planting fennel around the home helps to protect it, while hanging some in windows and doorways will ward off evil spirits (and evildoers presumably), as will carrying the seeds with you.  Making a fennel infusion and using it to wash the doors of your home also helps to keep negativity from entering; and leaving some in the keyholes is said to bar admittance to ghosts.

Historically fennel has been used to add scents to perfumes and soaps that were worn to give extra protection.

The herb can be burned as an incense, providing energy for purification, protection, longevity, and healing.  If you don't wish to burn it as an incense, you can use it in a sachet that will serve the same purpose(s).

Fennel has many varied uses in healing.  As always, any information here is not intended as medical advice.  Please contact your medical professional with any and all health concerns.

Like many herbs fennel has multiple healing properties: expectorant, laxative, stimulative, diuretic, and antispasmodic.

Chewing fennel seeds acts as an appetite suppressant, breath freshener, and also eases indigestion.  So, you can use it to not eat, or to fight the effects of eating what doesn't agree with you!

Fennel also helps in the treatment of colic, the reduction of flatulence, and as a mild laxative.

The herb is also beneficial to the eyes, and can be used as an eyewash when in solution, and in the treatment of glaucoma.

It is also helpful in the treatment of hypertension, possibly through its diuretic effects.

Brewing fennel seeds into a tea makes a liquid that can be used as an antidote to poisonous herbs and mushrooms, and that also treats chronic coughs.

Ingesting fennel also helps nursing mothers with lactation, regulates menstruation, and is said to help repair damage done to the liver through alcohol abuse.

If you choose to grow fennel, your garden will be blessed with a multitude of birds, helpful insects and even butterflies that are attracted to the plant.

However, powdered fennel will help drive away fleas, and perhaps other less useful insects.

Its also said that keeping a piece of fennel in your left shoe will prevent wood ticks from biting-again the less helpful insects! lol

As something of a kitchen witch, I can't help noting the irony that fennel seeds help suppress the appetite while fennel itself is used so often as a seasoning!

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Kenaz Reversed

Keep an open mind today.  Many times when we close our mind after making a decision we miss the things that could lead us in a new direction.  There is very little in the world more destructive than willful ignorance; try to keep an open mind today, even of ideas you may have previously rejected.

Tarot Card of the Day: 2 of Cups

A new relationship or work alliance is very possible today. Cooperation is essential to make this new partnership work.  There is definitely a connection between the two of you, take advantage of it to create something unique.

The Two Together

Kenaz Reversed paired with the 2 of Cups is telling you to consider new relationships; think about working with someone you never would have considered before.  Sometimes having an opposite point of view can open up a whole new level of possibilities.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Lagaz Reversed

You may find yourself unable to decide which direction to move in today.  Every option has its pluses and minuses and none of them seem ideal.  Listen to your intuition, even if it's not the same as what your head is telling you.  It's very possible you are overthinking things today: make the best decision you can and act on it-don't wait for the perfect opportunity to come along.

Tarot Card of the Day: King of Swords

You have lots of very good ideas, and you know where you want them to take you.  You want to see progress, to see things get done, not to spend a lot of time talking about doing them.  So go ahead, take the first step, start the new project, it's what you heart is telling you to do.

The Two Together

Both Lagaz Reversed and the King of Swords are urging action today.  Reversed Lagaz is saying get out of your own head and do something!! The King is saying you're capable, you're accomplished, you can do this.  So, just go do it already!

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Othala

Things are really going your way today.  Projects are going well, financially things are looking up.  An inheritance may well be in the offing soon.  Just be sure to share a little of your good fortune with someone who needs it.

Tarot Card of the Day: Page of Pentacles
Reversed

Some days we just want to hope for the best, and forget all about reality.  Unfortunately keeping our head in the clouds, keeping the blinders on, ignoring those facts we don't like: all just leads to bigger problems.  Good results take hard work, not just wishful thinking.

The Two Together

The Page of Pentacles-Reversed is paired with Othala as a caution.  Things may be going very well right now, but be prepared for possible problems.  Anticipate them if you can, and save yourself some real headaches.  Ups and downs are part of life, don't get so caught up in the good times that you forget to prepare for the bad.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Ehwaz

Change is the keyword for today.  New attitudes, maybe the start of a new diet or exercise regimen, a new beginning in becoming the person that you want to be.  Whether it is a large change or a small one, know that it is just the beginning of a new you.

Tarot Card of the Day: 6 of Cups
Often we look back on 'the good old days' as the ideal times of our lives, as the way we want them to be again.  Reminiscing is great, but if we are honest with ourselves, life was not perfect then, we are remembering things as we wish they were, not as they truly were.  Focus instead on making life what you want it to be, move ahead with confidence instead of looking back with longing.

The Two Together

Both Ehwaz and the 6 of Cups refer to our attitudes.  They are both telling us it is time to move on, to let go of the old and embrace the new.   We can never really recapture the magic of the past as we remember it, so instead, let's focus on making the future something worth remembering.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Tir

Letting go of the familiar is never easy, but it is sometimes necessary.  Today we need to let go of what is holding us back, no matter how comfortable or familiar it may be.  This opens the door for us to move on to bigger and better things.

Tarot Card of the Day: Queen of Swords Reversed
We need to be open to new ideas, new people, new places, new ways of doing things.  We only keep ourselves trapped when we have a closed mind.  We can miss out on so much in life just because we are afraid to open ourselves up to something new.

The Two Together

Both Tir and the Reversed Queen of Swords are telling us that we need to change things in our lives.  We need to let go of the familiar, especially if it is the familiar that is holding us back.  Sometimes we have to give up things that we think make us happy, to find that which will give us true, long lasting joy and inner peace.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Nied Reversed
It feels like the whole world is against you today, and it just might be, at least in your mind.  Although there are obstacles in your path, obsessing about them does nothing except to make them seem more important.  Sometimes we just have to make the best of a bad situation before we can move on-this is one of those times.

Tarot Card of the Day: Emperor

You can handle whatever comes your way today.  You know exactly what you want and how you want to get it, so go for it.  You certainly have the will and the determination to achieve your goals, and others know this about you so they tend to get out of your way.

The Two Together

Nied Reversed paired with the Emperor is telling you that you can overcome the obstacles in your way today.  Keep your eyes on your goal and you will achieve it-maybe not as quickly as you would like, but definitely on your own terms.  You will deal with the setbacks and delays and still get where you need to go.

Blessings!

Pagan Blog Project E is for Echinacea

Echinacea is associated with the planet Jupiter, the element Water, and Sagittarius in the zodiac.

Among its many folk names are Black Susan, snake root, combflower (probably after the comb-like protrusions in the center of its flower), and red sunflower.

Magickally echinacea is primarily used to strengthen other spells.  It can be added to any spell to give it a some extra oomph!

It also helps protect from poverty and promotes prosperity when grown around the house or brought inside and kept in a vase.  As an added bonus, the echinacea flowers last a long time in arrangements.

It is also known to provide inner strength when carried, which is a logical extension of its spell strengthening property.

Echinacea is especially useful in healing, being effective as an all-around healing tonic. Again with the strengthening property-it just builds up one's immune system.

As always, any information here is not meant as medical advice.  Please contact your medical professional with any and all health concerns.

Because the plant is a natural immune system booster, it is not recommended that you use this if you are on immune suppressing drugs.

Echinacea is a natural antibiotic that helps to build a resistance to colds, flu, and other infections.  However, a tolerance can develop if this is taken regularly.

Taking daily doses of echinacea for 2 weeks, then none for 2 weeks seems to be the most effective way of building your immunity without developing a tolerance that makes the herb ineffective.

In addition to boosting the immune system, echinacea also helps increase circulation to the capillaries which, in turn, helps white blood cells to reach any infection more rapidly.

The plant is very useful in fighting chronic infections due to its strengthening of the immune system.  It is also effective as a mouthwash in treating mouth sores, and when gargled with, in treating sore throats.

Applied topically, echinacea is very helpful with almost any skin injury or chronic condition.  It can disinfect wounds, clear up skin infections, and is also a treatment for eczema.

So far echinacea really looks to be the workhorse of the herbs I have been studying.  It will boost any spell, and then build up your immune system and clear up your skin besides!   Not only that, but its pretty, and stays looking good for a long time when placed in a flower arrangement.  What more could you ask a plant to do? lol

Blessings!
Rune of the Day: Algiz
Lots of new opportunities are coming your way today, just use caution as not all of them are what they seem to be.  Some of these openings won't look as appealing on the surface, but may be just what you need.  Sometimes it is necessary to give up a little now in exchange for much greater rewards later.  Just do your homework and check everything out before you commit to anything today.

Tarot Card of the Day: 3 of Swords
Things that used to come so easily to you, now require a fair amount of work.  It seems friendships, relationships, nothing is going as smoothly as it once did.  It takes two to make things work, or to make things not work.  Reach out and try to bridge the differences today, making an effort is sometimes all you really need to do to improve a situation.

The Two Together

Algiz paired with the 3 of Swords is reminding us that nothing stays the same.  New opportunities come along that can either create a distance between us and our loved ones, or bring us closer together.  It's all about communicating, and letting your loved ones know what's going on with you.  Keeping the door open, being honest, keeps your relationships healthy.

Pagan Blog Project E is for Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is a feminine herb associated with the Moon, the element of Water, and the deity of Isis.

It is also known as blue gum or Tasmanian blue gum, and as Australian fever tree.

The strong scent of eucalyptus makes it a natural insect repellent, and probably contributes to its reputation for driving away negativity.
Magickally eucalyptus is used for protection and for healing.

Burning the leaves on charcoal, as an incense, will purify an area and drive out any negative influences.

The leaves can also be carried with oneself, or left around one's home for protection and to keep away negativity.

Magickally eucalyptus is mainly used in healing spells, because of its many healing properties.

Make a healing poppet for yourself and stuff it with eucalyptus leaves.  Carrying it with you will maintain your good health.

Once someone is sick, hanging the plant over their bed encourages healing.

You can also make a ring with the leaves and the pods of the plant, place the ring around a green candle, and burn the ring while visualizing a cure.  This releases healing vibrations and hastens recovery.

Keeping pods of eucalyptus under your pillow wards off the common cold, while wearing a necklace of the green, immature pods will heal a sore throat.

As always, any information here is not meant as a substitute for medical advice.  Please contact your medical professional with any and all health concerns.

The scent of eucalyptus is especially good for clearing away congestion-both physical and emotional.  Tying a sprig in the shower, while you take a hot shower clears congestion and makes breathing easier.

Eucalyptus can also be used as a liniment for bruises and muscle sprains and pains.

The leaves of the plant can be used to make a tea that functions as a diuretic.  This has also been said to help shrink and/or prevent tumors.

Applying eucalyptus oil to the skin helps mend wounds and fever blisters, and to clear the skin from outbreaks such as acne and eczema.

Eucalyptus has a variety of healing uses due to its multiplicity of curative properties and its potency.  Use it with caution as a little goes a long way, though in this time of cold and flu season that is easier said than done.

Personally, I have been leaving eucalyptus in water in my crock pot, set on low.  The extra moisture in the air, and the faint scent of eucalyptus have pretty much ended the congestion I was waking up with every day.

Blessings!
Rune of the Day: Eihwaz
Flexibility is very important today: situations and relationships that have been holding you back will be coming to an end, causing you some temporary grief, but opening the way for new growth.  Accept these changes as they come, fighting against them only prolongs the pain.  Eihwaz is primarily a protective rune, so these changes are happening for a reason; don't fight them, let the rune energy work for you.

Tarot Card of the Day: World Reversed
Things don't always go according to plan, and today is one of the days when nothing seems to come together.  Try not to get so caught up in what is going wrong that you don't notice the new possibilities opening up before you-they are there, just disguised as disappointments.

The Two Together

Eihwaz and The World (Reversed) are telling us to hold on, it's going to be a bumpy ride today.  It may just feel like nothing is going right, that everything is falling apart.  The only thing to do is remember that from the worst wreckage the most incredible new growth can arise.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Perthro
This is a day of unexpected gain, of luck, of the Divine raining blessings upon you.  This is the day that you should take a chance on something that you've been thinking of doing, a day to focus on the big picture, the long term result, not on the day to day mundane.  Just be careful not to reach too far, the Universe never sends unlimited blessings.

Tarot Card of the Day: King of Cups Reversed
Keeping a level head today may be difficult, especially as others are quite willing to push our emotional buttons.  Remember that you cannot make anyone else happy, we are each responsible for our own happiness: don't let anyone manipulate you into doing something you don't want to just to please them.  Their unhappiness is their challenge to overcome, not your problem to fix.

The Two Together

Perthro paired with the Reversed King of Cups is telling us that even when things are going well for us on the material level, they may not go as well emotionally.  There is always someone who will want to bring you down when you are soaring, it's up to you to not let them.   Hold onto your own sunshine, don't let anyone else's cloud block it from your view.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Mannaz Reversed
It may feel like everyone and everything is against you today.  Not all people are honest and you may be very forcibly reminded of that today.  Try not to get caught up in the negativity of what is going on.  Remember that you can't control what others do, but you can control how you respond.  The more positively you look at things, the more quickly they will become positive.

Tarot Card of the Day: Hermit

It is easy to confuse being selfish with taking time for yourself.  It's never being selfish to do something nice for yourself, or to just take some down time to recharge your own batteries.  That is what you need to do today.  Remember, you are no good to yourself or anyone else if you let yourself get burned out.

The Two Together

Mannaz Reversed paired with the Hermit is telling us that it's okay to take some time and lick our wounds so to speak.  It's always hard to find out others have been deceiving us.  Taking some time to really think about the situation may help us to see things more clearly, and to prevent us from making the same mistake twice.
Blessings!

Monday, March 17, 2014

Rune of the Day:  Uruz Reversed

You may feel like kicking yourself today over a missed opportunity.  Unfortunately, that will not turn back time or change anything.  Bad luck happens, and the more we focus on it, the more we draw it to ourselves.  Instead, try to focus on the future, and the fact that life goes in circles-the next opportunity to come your way my be a much better one that that which you just missed.

Tarot Card of the Day: Knight of Wands

Try travelling some new paths today; take a different way to work, try a different coffee shop, just do something at least slightly different.  Changing up your routine once in a while is always a good thing, and today's a great day to do it.

The Two Together

Reversed Uruz paired with the Knight of Wands is telling us to shake things up a bit.  Sometimes we get so stuck in a certain way of doing things that we don't even notice all the new things going on around us.  This can lead to missed opportunities or to spending more time doing things than is really necessary.  So let the Knight of Wands lead the way and do something different, or do something differently.  Even small changes in our routine can help open our eyes to all the new possibilities out there.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Raidho

You are well on your way to your goals today, just don't expect to get there quickly.  There is still a distance to go; and at this point it is the path you take, not the destination, that is important.   Focus on clear, honest communication to remove the obstacles in your path; as you clear a physical path you also clear a mental one, and vice versa.

Tarot Card of the Day: The Magician

Today is a day of accomplishment, of getting things done.  You can do anything that you set your mind to doing today.  Be sure to stay focused:  it will be easy to get distracted and then find yourself bogged done in partially completed projects otherwise.

The Two Together

Raidho and the Magician are both speaking of getting things done, of reaching goals.  Raidho reminds us that our path is more important than our destination, while the Magician assures us that we have the ability to reach our goals.  Just remember that things are almost always completed in the Universe's time, not in ours.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Wunjo

You will be blessed with a new energy today, a new understanding of the world and your place in it.  This understanding comes from a true feeling of inner happiness and peace.  You have finally started to acknowledge your inner journey, and the progress you are making, and to feel the hidden blessings that the Universe is sending you.

Tarot Card of the Day: Ace of Wands Reversed

Things may not go as well as you had hoped today; there may be unexpected difficulties that force the cancellation of plans.  You may start a project only to find you don't have everything you need and that you must wait for another day.  Sometimes it's necessary to just roll with the flow in life.
The Two Together

Wunjo paired with the Reversed Ace of Wands is encouraging us to focus more on the spiritual than the material today.  The Reversed Ace indicates things not going well, plans being disrupted today, while Wunjo assures us of the blessings in our life.   Perhaps just having the inner serenity to accept what comes our way is the biggest blessing we can ask for.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Ansuz

Be open to new communications today, you may receive important information or inspiration from a most unexpected source.  Stay open to messages and advice from others, both spoken and unspoken.  There are always new paths in life all around us, really listen to what others have to say, you may find a different direction to explore.

Tarot Card of the Day: King of Wands
New opportunities will come your way today, as people realize that you are the person who can get the job done.  Once you set your sight on a goal, you let very little stand in your way.  This is something others see in you also, and it makes you the perfect go to person when someone needs something done.

The Two Together

Both Ansuz and the King of Wands are indicating that new opportunities are on the way to you.  Make sure you understand what others are telling you, it will not only give you new perspectives, but also help you share their vision on any joint ventures.

Blessings!

Pagan Blog Project-D is for Dandelion

Dandelion is a masculine herb, associated with the planet Jupiter, the element of Fire, and the Goddess Hecate.

It is also known as swine snout, puffball, lion's tooth, piss-a-bed, and white or wild endive.  I love learning all the alternate names of herbs; it really gives a new understanding to some of the unusual ingredients you read about in old spells.

Dandelion is often used as an altar decoration: it is appropriate for many rituals-the yellow flower for Ostara, Beltane and Litha, and the seed head for Lammas, Mabon, and Samhain.

Magickally, dandelion is used for divination, calling spirits, and the fulfillment of wishes.

It is said that you can learn how many years you will live by blowing on the seed head of a dandelion.  Count the seeds remaining and that is the number of years in your life.

To heighten psychic powers drink a tea made from dandelion root.  You need to dry, roast, and grind the root, almost as if it were a coffee bean to make this tea.  If you wish to call spirits, instead of drinking the tea leave a still steaming cup of it at your bedside before retiring.

You can send a long distance message to a loved one by visualizing your message, facing the direction that they are in, and blowing on the seed head of a dandelion.

Burying dandelion in the northwest corner of your house promotes favorable winds.

Children traditionally make wishes while blowing on the seed head of a dandelion, and carrying a sachet or charm made containing the leaves and root helps make wishes come true.

Dandelion, like many plants, has multiple healing uses.  It is especially useful in treating the urinary and digestive systems, and as a skin cleanser.  As always, any information given here is not meant as a substitute for medical advice.  Please contact your medical professional with any and all health concerns.

The leaves and root are used to treat liver, gall bladder, kidney and joint problems.  They are also helpful in treating poor digestion.

The dandelion plant is especially high in the A, B, C, and D vitamins and in potassium.  This makes it a good detoxifier for one's system, and it can help to clean the blood and lymph systems.

It is also high in fiber, and it's cleansing properties also help to clear the skin as toxins are flushed from the body.  A face wash made with dandelion flowers is also helpful in treating skin conditions such as acne and eczema.

A tea made from dandelion root is useful in treating incontinence, including bedwetting, as it helps to tighten the sphincter of the bladder preventing.

In cooking dandelion leaves are used in salad, the leaves or the root (as already mentioned) are used to make tea, and let us not forget dandelion wine, made from the flowers of the plant.

Dandelion is also said to drive away negativity, and with its bright, cheerful yellow color, and multiplicity of uses, I have no trouble believing that at all.

Blessings!
Rune of the Day: Thurisaz

Practice with diplomacy today, even with those you don't think deserve your time, or perhaps, especially with them.  Often it is our relationships with others that helps to keep the chaos of the world away from us.  Work on building those relationships today using courtesy and plain speaking.

Tarot Card of the Day: 7 of Pentacles
Your cleverness and hard work are starting to pay off today.  You're finally realizing rewards from the efforts you have been putting in, especially in financial matters.  Be on the lookout for new opportunities today, there is at least one good one coming your way.

The Two Together

Thurisaz paired with the 7 of Pentacles is telling us that we must practice kindness and diplomacy at all times; even when things are going well for us.  It's often easy to disregard unpleasant people when our lives are going well, but everyone deserves common courtesy.  Remember, in this life things often turn on a dime, you may need those very people you snub today in the near future.
Blessings!
