Rune of the Day: Lagaz

Lagaz is a rune of the mind: empathy, compassion, imagination, intuition and premonitions.

This rune appears when we need to listen to our subconscious and the messages it is sending to us. These messages may involve how we deal with others, or how we view ourselves.

Often, the messages come through our imagination, and are expressed in our creative endeavors or in our dreams.  These messages help us revitalize or realign our lives.

Lagaz is telling us that now is a time to pay particular attention to the messages from our subconscious: our dreams, our intuitions, and our inspirations.  They just might lead us to something great.

Tarot Card of the Day: 8 of Pentacles

The 8 of Pentacles is a card of apprenticeship, of learning and hard work, of skill and craftsmanship.

This card is often drawn when one is thinking of changing careers, or taking up a new hobby/interest.

With this card know that your hard work will pay off, although you have much to learn, you will eventually be well rewarded for taking the time to learn it.

The energy of this card is a great boost if you are making some changes for the new year-its a definite plus to have this to help with any resolutions you may have made.

The Two Together:

Lagaz speaks of listening to our intuition, while the 8 of Pentacles encourages us, telling us that it is time to learn something new.

Today is the day to start learning about something that has intrigued us for a while, something that our subconscious keeps putting front and center in our minds.

Let's start small, with just learning; maybe we will learn enough to know that we want to work regularly in this new area.  With the 8 of Pentacles, it's certainly possible that we may find a new way to make a living.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Tir

Tir is a rune of self-sacrifice, of doing what is best for the many rather than the one or the few.  It is a rune of victory and honor, of justice and balance, and also of letting go of that which is holding one back.

It's letting us know that it's time to jettison the dead weight from our lives, no matter how attached we may be to that dead weight.  This may involve distancing ourselves from people, or giving up self-destructive or wasteful habits.

Tir encourages us to follow our path to success, while warning us not to let the success go to our heads. We have to give up things that have been holding us back, to truly succeed at bettering ourselves: that does not give us the right to look down on those unable to make that sacrifice.

Indeed, the people still being held back by their own poor choices, be they negative companions, destructive habits, or just a bad attitude in general, need our understanding and patience; for whatever reason they are just not ready to better themselves yet.

Tarot Card of the Day: The Emperor Reversed

The Emperor reversed is a card of immaturity, indecision, of weakness of character.

This card is drawn when one is being selfish, or forced to deal with a selfish person.  Someone who only looks at things from their own perspective, and only considers how things affect them.

This is a very self-centered person, someone who simply doesn't even think of others and how they may be affected by the actions taken.

We can't change others, we can only change our reaction to them.  Perhaps today would be a good day to spend less time with unpleasant people, or to point out to them things they may not have thought of.  At least we will know that we have tried to broaden their perspective.

The Two Together:

Tir and the Emperor reversed represent opposite sides of the spectrum.  Tir is someone making sacrifices for the benefit of all, for progress in the long run, while the reversed Emperor represents someone who thinks only of themselves and of the present.

These opposites, appearing together, indicate that today is a day of making choices, of deciding whether we want to do what is best in the long run, or to choose immediate gratification.

The choices that come our way today are the ones with long lasting consequences; the ones that later in life we may look back and say if only I had ....

Keep the big picture in mind today, the choices we make today will be with us forever!

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Daeg

Daeg is a rune of success, confidence, of epiphany and transformation.

This rune appears when one is making new discoveries, and transforming oneself.  It signifies a new-found confidence, a sense of security and certainty.

Often, this rune coincides with having an epiphany, or moment of clarity, that gives one a whole new way of looking at the world.  Sometimes, it leads to a whole new way of life, or at least a new focus in life.

Often these changes are seemingly dramatic, giving up a high pressure job for a low paying, low stress one, becoming vegetarian.

Regardless of the changes one does or doesn't make, the appearance of Daeg symbolizes a new period of contentment in one's life.

Tarot Card of the Day: Page of Swords

The Page of Swords is a card of insight, of observation and discovery.

This card often represents a very observant child, or someone who is eternally curious, always wanting to know how and why things work.

It also represents the natural curiosity in all of us; that curiosity that frequently dulls as we age and become involved in the day to day tasks of living.

Spend some time today rediscovering your inner child, and its inherent curiosity. You just might be surprised at some of the connections you make.

The Two Together:

Daeg speaks of  epiphanies and transformations, while the Page of Swords represents curiosity and exploration. The one obviously follows the other.

We cannot have epiphanies if we are not curious, are not exploring things outside of our normal world.  Without this broadening of our horizons, without epiphanies, there is no reason for transformation.

So let your inner child lead the way today, take whatever knowledge is found, and use as much of it as feels right to better yourself!

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Eolh

Eolh is a rune of temperance and courtesy, of caution and protection, of a need to take care.

Because Eolh is primarily a rune of protection, it is merely warning you to be careful about what influences you let into your life, no matter how prettily they may be wrapped.

Be aware of what is happening around you, but treat everyone involved with courtesy.  Temperance is key with this rune: just because something, or someone, is not right for you, is no reason to treat them disrespectfully.  There may very well still be lessons to be learned.

Just because we don't want certain influences in our life, doesn't mean we can't learn from those same influences.  Often, its observation that teaches us the things to avoid, rather than personal experience.

Tarot Card of the Day: 7 of Staffs

The 7 of Staffs is a card of success, of overcoming incredible odds, of reaching a goal, of victory.

This card is drawn when we have our goal in sight and just need that one last push to succeed.  That last bit of encouragement, that no matter how bad the outcome looks, we can reach our goal.

Today is a day that you can accomplish what you put your mind to, that those things you thought would never happen suddenly become not just possible, but likely.

The Two Together:

Eolh and the 7 of Staffs are warning us that although we can accomplish anything we set our minds to, we need to be careful how we do it.

Sometimes the cost of getting something is simply not worth the long term price we pay.  We absolutely should go after our dreams,  we just need to use caution in how we get them.

It can be easy to get caught up in the chase, in the near victory, and to do things we later regret.   Take the time today to consider the long term consequences of your actions, not just the immediate rewards that will be gained.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Wunjo

Wunjo is a rune of blessings, security, comfort and accomplishment.  True inner happiness has been reached when this rune appears.

This is a rune of things going well, not perfectly.  It doesn't mean no problems, it just means having the peace of mind, and inner confidence to know that whatever comes your way you can handle.

This rune indicates joy and receiving blessings, but blessings are often in the eye of the beholder.  We all have blessings around us every day, this rune just reminds us to notice them.

Tarot Card of the Day: 6 of Swords

The 6 of Swords is a card of success, of overcoming adversity through sheer force of will, of determination.

This card is drawn when one is close to winning a battle, to overcoming a challenge.  Often it is through sheer stubbornness that such victory is obtained, through a refusal to accept defeat.

So today, go full steam ahead!  Tackle the things you've been putting off, deal with the stuff you've been avoiding, today is the day you will get through it all and on your terms!

The Two Together:

The 6 of Swords and Wunjo together show today as being a day to accomplish things, a day of enjoyment, a day when you know that you can handle anything that comes along.

Confidence would be the word of today.  You are able to do whatever you set your mind to; so let your mind wander, try something new, or spend some time enjoying something old and comfortable.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Jera

Jera is a rune of of slow success, of a beneficial outcome but not a quick result.  This is a rune of reaping well-earned rewards.

Jera is all about slow and steady wins the race, patience rewarded, with perseverance being essential.

Know that when Jera appears whatever projects you have been working on will be successful, as long as you continue to nurture them.  Spend time working towards your goals, knowing that with Jera's energy your success is assured.

Tarot Card of the Day: 10 of Swords Reversed

The 10 of Swords reversed is a card of benefit, of temporary gain, of profit and improvement.

This card appears when things begin to turn around for us after a slump.  This may be a temporary improvement, or if we act prudently it may be a long term change.

Know that things will look better when this card appears, that they will be going well.  The key is to not just accept the improvement in fortune, but to share it, so it continues.

The Two Together:

Both Jera and the reversed 10 of Swords speak of things getting better, either long or short term.   The key today is to remember that sudden progress may not be lasting, and that your long term rewards are guaranteed.

Enjoy any improvements that come your way, know that eventually success is yours, just don't count on sudden rewards lasting.  Use some common sense, and a bit of caution and you will reach your goals!

Blessings!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Rune of the Day: Kenaz

Kenaz is a rune of learning, self-awareness, craftsmanship, and also of being crafty and sly (after all, the sly are usually after knowledge also).

This rune represents working hard, enlightenment, wisdom and understanding.  Self-awareness is the knowledge most represented by this rune, but we can only get to know ourselves by expanding our knowledge of others and in general.

Its only through learning about  each other's journeys, beliefs, and customs that we can choose those that speak to us, that help us to become better people.

Experience truly is the greatest teacher.  Exploring, perhaps experiencing, those beliefs and experiences from other people that most speak to us, that is our journey to self-awareness.

Tarot Card of the Day: Knight of Staffs Reversed

The Knight of Staffs (Wands) reversed is a card of interruption, of unexpected change, of distraction.

This card often indicates delays, being waylaid, sometimes arguments an disagreements.

Today is a holiday for many, and family disagreements frequently appear when people are together.  Take a step back today, bite your tongue, be the better person.

Think of the memories you want this holiday to have, and act accordingly; there is no need to buy into someone else's drama.

The Two Together:

Kenaz and a reversed Knight of Staffs together are giving us some great advice for any day of the year, especially one that brings so many people together.

Take the time today to see someone else's point of view before you react to what they say or do.  Practice understanding, and compassion, and tolerance.  It makes for a much more peaceful day whether you celebrate a holiday today or not.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day; Mannaz

Mannaz is a rune of humanity, of growth and cooperation, of the collective good.

This rune appears when we are experiencing growth of some kind, not necessarily just growth of ourselves.  It frequently indicates the formation of a deeper connection to others; to family, friends, coworkers, to people in general.

Sometimes Mannaz represents a new career opportunity, but this will usually be an opportunity for something that will help one to grow as a person also, perhaps a position that requires more cooperation with others, that is more of a big-picture job.

Mannaz indicates that it is a good time to do some real soul searching, and to see how one fits into the whole collective of humanity, and of one's own world.

Tarot Card of the Day: 2 of Cups

The 2 of Cups is a card of love, passion, partnership, of a new or renewed relationship, sometimes even of marriage.

At this time of year, many people reconnect with old friends, sometimes with old lovers, and this card represents that energy, of both new connections and reconnecting.

Take time today to enjoy the people around you, both new friends, and old.  Reach out to someone if you are interested in a relationship.  Spend some time catching up with old friends.

The Two Together:

Both Mannaz and the 2 of Cups speak to our connection to each other; Mannaz on a much larger level, while the 2 of Cups focuses our attention on a more personal level.

Go with the energy of today, socialize, spend time with old friends and new, just don't forget to spend some time with yourself1

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Beork

Beork is a rune of growth, fertility, nurturing and creativity.  It is a rune of creating things: life, art,  marriage, whatever you create this is the energy that helps you to do so.

This is a rune of nurturing things along, of watching them grow and develop whether it is a building you designed, a painting you are painting, or a child you are raising.

Beork is the energy of giving something back to the world, something lasting or something transient-it doesn't matter.  Indulge your creative side today, from a child's paper doll, to the pyramids, to a new born baby, all were created and nurtured with the energy of Beork.

Tarot Card of the Day: The Devil

The Devil is a card of addiction, of self-destruction, of bondage, of malevolence.

Generally, the Devil represents giving in to our baser desires, to the point of letting them control our lives.  It is akin to being in a prison of our own making.  This card appears when we are letting our lives get out of control.

Take this card as a warning, to use moderation, to think of the consequences of one's actions, to not give in to temptation.  Usually, some indulgence is fine, but today, with the energy of the Devil around us, it is not a good idea.

The Two Together:

Beork and the Devil are actually two sides of the same card.  They both represent the energy of creativity: Beork channels it constructively, the Devil channels it destructively.

Anything can be destructive if used wrongly, or to excess.  This includes the creative energy of Beork: if we become so caught up in what we are creating that we neglect the other aspects of our lives, then we are as much in a prison of our own making as if we suffered from addiction.

Likewise destructive forces, if channeled properly, can be constructive.  Instead of using the energy of the Devil to indulge ourselves, channel it outward, and spend it helping others, creating things, cleaning, any positive outlet will do.

We have all the energy we need today: we just need to decide what direction we want to travel with it!

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Fehu

Fehu is a rune of possessions, of material gain, of fulfillment and good luck.

This is the rune of good things coming to those who work for them.  A rune of well-earned rewards.  Fehu represents things going well for people who are doing the right thing.

Enjoy your good fortune, but to keep it going, it must be shared willingly.  Prosperity and luck will stagnate and eventually dry up if they are not shared and kept alive and fresh with others.

Tarot Card of the Day: 5 of Swords

The 5 of Swords is a card of conflict, of defeat and degradation, of destroying others.

You may be tempted to speak your mind today, to tell others how you truly feel.  Think before you speak; you may make win the battle, but lose the war.  Is it really worth alienating your friends and family just to get something off your chest?

Also remember that with the influence of the 5 of Swords so prevalent today, irritations may be somewhat exaggerated.  This is yet another reason to hold your tongue, at least for today.

If you must tell others how you really feel, pick a place and time, and do it in a way that is not confrontational or accusatory.  A little tact can go a long way towards smoothing ruffled feathers.

The Two Together:

The good fortune of Fehu may seem at odds with the conflict represented by the 5 of Swords, but sometimes good fortune and prosperity emboldens us to do things we normally wouldn't.

Really, who doesn't dream of winning the lottery and telling their boss what to do with their job?   Just remember real life has a lot more consequences than fantasies do.

Enjoy the fact that things go well for you today, don't use it as an excuse to tell off people who may annoy you, especially people you are close to.  Those few minutes of satisfaction will not be worth the price you pay in trying to repair your relationships with your loved ones.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Ing

Ing is a rune of new beginnings, of fertility and prosperity, of sexual heat, latent energy and potency.

This is a rune of getting things done, of accomplishment and creation.  Projects that one has been working on, or meaning to get to, now is a great time to work on them.   It is amazing how much can be accomplished with the energy of Ing.

This is a truly a can-do type of energy, for both esoteric and mundane projects.  Cleaning and/or organizing the house, creating art, closing a business deal, even creating life, just about anything is possible today.

Take the energy of Ing, and use it well.  Do the things that always seem to be too big to tackle, that one has been putting off.   Today, those projects just won't be as daunting.

Tarot Card of the Day: 6 of Cups

The 6 of Cups is a card of nostalgia, of memories, of influences from the past and those things that have shaped us.

Sometimes this card symbolizes a trip back to where one grew up, a return to one's roots.  More often, it symbolizes a trip down memory lane, a time of reminiscing.

This card often also symbolizes trying to recreate for one's own children some of the traditions and beliefs that one grew up with.  At this time of year, with the holidays in full swing, many people are in touch with family and recreating good memories from their childhood.

The Two Together:

Ing is a rune of getting things done, of energy, of drive, while the 6 of Cups speaks of nostalgia and reminiscing.

Together, they reflect a drive to return to a simpler time, a desire to recapture some of the holiday magic from one's younger years.

Use the energy of Ing to build a snowman or snow fort, to have a snowball fight, or if it hasn't been done yet, to set up holiday decorations.  Recreate some of the holiday fun enjoyed in one's youth.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Gifu

Gifu is a rune of partnership, of equal give and take, of karmic union, of sacrifice and obligation.

This rune reminds us that for every action there is an an equal and opposite reaction, even if it is a karmic reaction that takes a lifetime or two to manifest.

Good or bad, our actions in this lifetime will be returned to us, perhaps in this lifetime, perhaps in another.  This is our partnership with the Divine, and it is something Gifu is drawn to remind us of.

Tarot Card of the Day: 9 of Cups Reversed

The 9 of Cups reversed is a card of mistakes, opposition, imperfection, often a loss of material wealth.

This card signifies that all is not always as it seems, that things may appear much brighter than they are.  Use this card as a warning, take a close look at what is happening around you, and at what you have been doing.

Make sure that you are seeing the situation clearly, and from the point of view of others in the situation, not just from your own perspective.  Sometimes, putting yourself in another's shoes can open up a whole new way of looking at a situation.

Often, this is all that is needed, so that changes can be made to keep things going well, to stop them from going off track.

The Two Together:

Gifu and the 9 of Cups reversed both encourage us to look at the point of view of others in any given situation.  They are both reminding us that we are not in this life alone, that our actions affect others, as their actions affect us.

Keep this in mind today, not just as to how other's affect us, but also why they do what they do.  If we can understand another's motivation, we can much more easily reach an understanding and/or compromise with them.

Blessings!

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Rune of the Day: Isa

Isa is a rune of enforced standstill, of stasis, of imposed rest and backpedaling.

This rune appears when it is necessary to stop what one is doing.  Often trying to push one's way through such a blockage will lead to illness, or to something going so wrong that there is nothing to be done to fix it.  For example, driving a flat tire just to the gas station-the rim ends up so damage that needs to be replaced also.

When Isa is drawn it is never a good idea to try anything new, it is time to merely maintain the status quo.  Remember that there are forces at work of which we may not be aware.

Wait for things to change without pushing them along; when that happens the standstill required by Isa will have passed, and it will again be time for action.

Tarot Card of the Day: Temperance

Temperance is a card of moderation, patience, cooperation and compromise.

This card represents success, sometimes even perfection, but it is success and perfection obtained through compromise and alteration, not those of a single vision.

Patience, and willingness to compromise are essential today.  We may not get exactly what we want today, but by being willing to bend, we will get something that is probably better, or at least just as good.

The Two Together:

Isa and Temperance both speak of not getting exactly what we want, when we want it.  They also remind us that it is often foolish to try to force things to fit our preconceived ideals.

Isa warns us that insisting on what we want will just set us back further: while Temperance is the light at the end of the tunnel; telling us that if we just compromise, if we bend a little, we will end up with something better than we had originally envisioned.

Keep an open mind today, and be surprised at what the Universe will bring your way!

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Hagall

Hagall is a rune of radical disruption, of things beyond one's control, of change, damage, and of regeneration.

This rune generally appears when one needs a rude awakening, so to speak.  The more severe or abrupt the disturbance is, the more of an awakening is needed.

Pay attention to the underlying cause of the disruption, this is what one needs to learn from.  By learning, this turmoil can lead to new, unforeseen, long-term rewards.

Tarot Card of the Day: Ace of Staffs Reversed

The Ace of Staffs reversed is a card of false starts, of plans being cancelled, of frustration.

This card is usually drawn when one's plans simply are not meant to work out.  There is rarely anything that could have been done to prevent this from happening; it is usually a lesson being taught either to us or to someone else involved in the situation.

Try to roll with the punches today, know that things sometimes just don't work out, and don't take it personally.

The Two Together:

Both Hagall and the reversed Ace of Staffs are telling us that plans will be delayed, that today will be a day of things not going our way.

We need to remember that this is happening for a reason, it is the Divine's way of teaching us a lesson.  We need to look past ourselves, and our disappointment and frustration, and see what we are meant to learn from this delay.

Perhaps we could have made better plans, or perhaps we merely need to be reminded that sometimes things just don't work out.  Whatever the lesson is, the sooner we recognize and learn it, the sooner we can be sure that we will not have to be taught it again, in a more extreme manner!

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Thurisaz Reversed

Thurisaz reversed is a rune of rapid developments, often leading to hasty decisions that are soon regretted.  It's a rune of delayed or unpleasant travel, and of obstacles.

Often these are obstacles created by ego, by being unwilling to step aside and let others help or even lead.  It generally requires both humility and courage to overcome the hurdles in one's way now.

This is a rune that frequently indicates the need to humble oneself, to ask for help, and to risk rejection in order to undo whatever damage has been done, or to tear down the obstacles that have been created.

Reach out to those who can help, after all we are all in this world together.  Only by helping each other, and accepting help from each other, can we truly progress.

Tarot Card of the Day: 5 of Cups

The 5 of Cups is a card of regret, of partnerships lacking, of superficial relationships-marriage without love, friendship without meaning.

This card often represents relationships that one has moved past but hasn't left yet, the ones that we only maintain because its easier than ending them.

The 5 of Cups is telling us its time to move on.  If a relationship is no longer serving us, if it is just an unwillingness to change that keeps us connected, then it is time to move on.

There is too much to do in life, too much to enjoy, too many new people out there to meet, to keep us tied to someone  who we have moved past.

Change is almost always difficult, but sometimes it is necessary, and this card appeared today, to let us know its time to make some changes.

The Two Together:

Thurisaz reversed and the 5 of Cups each indicate that today will be a day of challenges.  A day in which it is necessary to own up to our mistakes and shortcomings.  A day to try to repair some of the damage we have done, both to ourselves and to others.

On the positive side, as we recognize the mistakes we have made, and acknowledge the things we have held on to just because it was easier than letting them go, we begin to grow, and to move on.

That's what today is for, a day of moving on, of clearing out that which no longer serves us, of acknowledging our mistakes and asking for help in fixing them.

Do this with the knowledge that it is helping us to clear our path, so that we can better reach our potential.  As long as we learn from our mistakes, we can go forward knowing that we are becoming better people.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Sigel

Sigel is a rune of good fortune, of success and vitality, of enlightenment, of warmth and wholeness.

This is a rune of completion, of having found a sense of inner peace and belonging.

Sigel appears when things will be going well, when one is on a roll so to speak.  When Sigel appears, even things that don't go according to plan present new opportunities, often ones that are better than that which didn't work out.

Enjoy the good time that Sigel indicates, appreciate what you have, and share a little of your joy, knowing that we are all interconnected.

Tarot Card of the Day: 9 of Pentacles

The 9 of Pentacles is a card of accomplishment, of prudence, of discretion and material well being.

This card always makes me think of "old money" the people who have money but are not ostentatious or showy with it; those that live well, but quietly.

That's what this card indicates for today, financially things will be going decently.  There will be enough money to take care of the essentials, to do what has to be done, but not enough to splurge.

Need a new coat for winter, or new tires for the car, go ahead, buy what you need.  Just remember that you don't need the most expensive coat and tires for sale, just the ones that are of good quality.  With the 9 of Pentacles in your corner, you can afford it!

The Two Together:

Both Sigel and the 9 of Pentacles indicate things going well; with the influence of the 9 of Pentacles, it is most likely that they both refer, at least tangentially, to finances.

Just remember that things change as time goes on, and that we really do attract what we put out.  So take your cue for today from the 9 of Pentacles, enjoy-don't overdo.

Share a little bit of your good fortune, even if its just a few minutes of your time.  Only by helping each other do we truly help ourselves, and truly deserve the blessings that we have.

Blessings!

Rune of the Day: Ehwaz Reversed

Ehwaz reversed is a rune of blockages and delays, of stagnation.

This rune appears when one is stuck in a rut, spiritually and emotionally, when one is feeling disconnected, or out-of-sorts emotionally.

Ehwaz reversed represents emotional or spiritual blockages, and sometimes delays in new things starting.  Often these delays are the Divine's way of saying that one is just not ready yet.

Meditate, spend time in nature, clear the chakras, just do something to help reconnect with the Divine.  Re-establishing that contact will help one see what must be done to clear the blockages and begin moving forward again.

Tarot Card of the Day: Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune is a card of of fate, of resolution and outcomes, of advancement.

This card is neither positive nor negative on its own, it is greatly influenced in a reading by the cards around it.  As a stand-alone card of the day, it is very much stating that it is up to us to make today a good or bad day.

The more positive energy that is put out, the better today will be, the more negative energy expended, the worse the day will be.

The Wheel of Fortune also represents resolution to problems, again perspective is key.  A less than positive outcome to a situation can still be a good thing: the situation is now resolved and no longer needs to be draining one of energy.  It is now a done deal that can be walked away from, so that new, more positive projects can be undertaken.

The Two Together:

Ehwaz reversed paired with the Wheel of Fortune is clearly telling us that we are what is standing in our own way.   Ehwaz speaks of blockages and delays, while the Wheel of Fortune is telling us that our fate, and fortune, is in our own hands.

That makes today a great day to tackle the things we have been meaning to get to.  All the projects we've been meaning to get to and just haven't had a chance; the ones hanging over our heads 'cuz we know we have to do them sooner or later.

Tackle a couple of them today, even finishing just one can create a new sense of accomplishment and that positivity will blow those blockages right out of our way!

Blessings!
