Rune of the Day: Kenaz

Kenaz is a rune of learning, of craftsmanship, of ability and innovation.  this rune indicates a need to work on bettering yourself either through learning something new or through advancing and honing skills you already have.

It is only through knowledge that we can advance and grow, but knowledge not used or applied to our lives is a waste of time.  Taking the time to truly understand what we learn is what gives us the experiences that help us to grow.

Many things such as how to change the oil in a car, or how to make a souffle are not truly learned until you have actually performed the task.  The experience of actually doing something new and not just reading or being told about it is what helps us to grow. Kenaz is telling us to learn something new, and to add to our experiences as well as our knowledge.

Tarot Card of the Day: The Fool

The Fool is a card of being impulsive, carefree, frivolous and immature.  This is a card of doing what one wants without thinking of the consequences.

This card usually comes up to warn us that we need to slow down a little, and think before we act.  This card often indicates that our actions may hurt ourselves or others, not through maliciousness, but through thoughtlessness and carelessness.

The Fool is telling us that we need to think of the repercussions of our actions before we do anything.  And not just how they will affect us, but also those around us.   Before quitting your job over a disagreement with your boss, think of how you and those depending on you will get by if you're unemployed.

Act with caution, and look at the big picture.  The Fool reminds us that we all are just bit players in that picture, and that our actions affect many more than just ourselves.

The Two Together:

Kenaz is telling us to learn, while the Fool is telling us to be aware of the consequences of our actions.

We need to keep balance in our lives.  Learning new things is a great way to grow, and can often lead us down new paths.  The Fool is just telling us to look down those paths before we start running down them full speed ahead.

We need to learn to grow, but we need to remember how our growth affects others.  Sometimes growth requires change, but we should be aware of how our changes affect others and not just blindly leap into them for the sake of change itself.

Blessings!
